MESSAGE:

FROM THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIATURE IN CHINA:

MSGR. AMBROSE MADTHA

Counsellor, Charge d' Affaires a.i.

I am pleased to know that the Diocese of Taichung has organized a Diocesan Migrants' Team Ministry to come to the needs of the numerous migrant brothers and sisters in Central Taiwan. At the very outset, I would like to congratulate you all for this important ministry that you will be undertaking for the benefit of all.

"Today's migration makes up the fastest movement of people of all times. In these last decades, the phenomenon, now involving about 200 million individuals, has turned into a structural reality of contemporary society. It is becoming an increasingly complex problem for social, cultural, political, religious, economic and pastoral point of view" (Cardinal Stephen Fumio Hamao, President of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People). So, the Center for Migrants' Concerns for the Central Taiwan by the Taichung Diocese is indeed is more than welcome.

So in a world full of migrants, we cannot but remember the figure of our Lord Jesus Christ, who said "I was a stranger and you made me welcome" (Mt. 25:35). He Himself with his family was a migrant Child in Egypt. He teaches us that it is a christian duty to welcome every person that comes to us from near and far.

This website will surely serve every migrant worker throughout the world, especially in Taiwan for a global networking and a "communion" with each other. The vision of "Koinonia", from the Greek word means social communion, association and also could mean close relationship, solidarity or generosity is indeed a vision of the Church, that "all may be one under Christ" (Eph. 1:10)

I would like to wish you and the whole "Diocesan Migrants' Team" as well as every migrant brother and sister, God's abundant blessings who indeed sent His Son Jesus Christ, as a migrant sent into this world to unite us with Himself.

SGD. MSGR. AMBROSE MADTHA

Counsellor, Charge d' Affaires, a.i.

CHINESE REGIONAL BISHOPS' CONFERENCE (CRBC)

THE EPISCOPAL COMMISSION ON MIGRATION AND ITINERANT PEOPLE

HIS EXCELLENCY

MOST REV. BOSCO LIN, D.D.

Chairman

Undoubtedly, migration today constitute the fastest massive movement of people the world has ever experienced. Taiwan with more than 300,000 foreign workers employed as caretakers, domestic helpers, fishermen, factory and construction workers are part of this global movement.

The Church in Taiwan has been always concerned about these brothers and sisters coming from our neighboring countries, throughout the years with the assistance of many foreign missionaries, the Church has stood on the side of migrant workers that were abused and exploited, has lobbied for better legislation and offered shelter and comfort in Catholic structures.

But seems that this is not enough, the recent instruction of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People: "Erga Migrantes Caritas Christi" (The love of Christ towards Migrants) is challenging the local Church to: "respond to the new pastoral needs of migrants and lead them towards the transformation of their migration experience not only into an opportunity to grow in Christian life, but also an occassion of new evangelization and mission" (EMCC, Presentation).

It is a difficult task that could be achieved only through more understanding and cooperation, setting aside differences brought about by languages, nationalities, color, and ethnic background.

This website and newly established Center for Migrants Concerns - Central Taiwan are signs of this new communion (koinonia) that we are trying to build.

May God bless this new endeavor and the Blessed Virgin Mary will accompany all of you in this new and unique journey.

SGD.

BISHOP BOSCO LIN, D.D.

Chairman, RCBC - ECMI

HABEMUS PAPAM! POPE BENEDICT XVI

HIS EXCELLENCY

MOST REV. JOSEPH WANG YU-JUNG, D.D.

BISHOP OF TAICHUNG

Greetings!

Welcome to the center for migrants' concerns - central taiwan (CMC-CT) website.  This website is our commitment to further establish Christian solidarity with the migrants and itinerant people throughout the world particularly in Taiwan.  This is our humble contribution and response to the challenges of the global phenomenon on migration.

Through this website, we hope also to establish international networking relation with other organizations; such as, Government Organizations/Agencies (GOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Churches, International communities, and the like who devote themselves in helping our brothers and sisters on the move.  This is part of the Taichung Diocese's commitment to mission in adherence to the Pontifical Instruction "Erga Migrantes Caritas Christi" (The love of Christ towards migrants).

As pastor of the Diocese of Taichung, I would like to assure all the migrants and itinerant people in Central Taiwan regardless of religion, nationality, race, color, and ethnic background, that "you are not alone, God and His Church are with you!" The CENTER FOR MIGRANTS' CONCERNS - CENTRAL TAIWAN is your home, your friend, your family and companion in your journey.

I would like also to enjoin all the clergy, lay faithful in the Diocese to establish and promote a "Culture of Welcome and solidarity capable of accepting the truly human values of the immigrants over and above any difficulties caused by living together with persons who are different" (EMCC #39).  In migrants, the Church has always contemplated the image of Christ who said, "I was a stranger and you made me welcome" (Mt. 23:35)

"pastoral care of migrants and itinerant people means welcome, respect, protection, promotion and genuine love of every person in his or her religious and cultural expressions" (EMCC#28)

The Holy Father, John Paul II, in his Encyclicals and many Addresses and Messages, stresses the importance of "the defense of the human person 's fundamental rights became one of the privileged paths on which to proclaim the Gospel." (Presentation of the Instruction "EMCC" by Card.  Stephen Fumio Hamao).

Thus, the CMC-CT is the new pastoral approach in the Diocese for pastoral and social services to migrants and itinerant people and this website is one of the vehicles to reach out.

SGD.

HIS EXCELLENCY

MOST REV.JOSEPH WANG YU-JUNG, D.D.

BISHOP OF TAICHUNG

TAIWAN, R.O.C.
